St Peter’s Community Kitchen Garden

May8

At St Peter’s we know that it is important to make sure that we care for our environment. We have decided to start a community kitchen garden to do our part for the environment. 5EC along with Fatima, Rosa and Kerry from OSHC and Frank, a parishinor will begin work on the garden soon.

EXPLORE THE SITES BELOW AND FIND OUT WHICH VEGETABLES WE SHOULD PLANT COMING INTO WINTER.

Leave a comment with 2-3 types of vegetables that you would like to plant that would be suitable for winter planting.

*Dot point the name of each vegetable and mention what months it will grow best in. Also include any other important information about each of the vegetables. Example: what it should or should not be planted near, how much space it might need, how long it might take to grow, how to maintain it etc. Finally mention the name of the website that contained the information in case you need to refer back to it later.

MRS CANNING’S EXMAPLE:

*Strawberries: Strawberries will grow best between June – October, if we plant now they will be around for a while which is great. Strawberries will need a lattice to climb up and attract snails so we need to think about pest control. I found out that snails hate cauliflower so we can plant that next to the strawberries so it might keep them away. They should produce fruit within 4 weeks of planting if watered every 2nd day. (Gardening Australia Website)  NOTE THIS INFORMATION WAS ENTIRELY MADE UP AS MY EXAPMLE. YOU WILL NEED TO DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH.
